African Promise’s superstar fundraiser and junior ambassador, Freya Hyslop, is back again with her latest fundraising challenge!
Two years ago, now 13-year-old Freya undertook a 100km walk-to-school challenge – walking the 10km to school and back each day for a week and raising more than £5,000 in the process.
Now, for a whole month, Freya is subjecting herself to freezing winter temperatures by doing a daily cold water plunge in a large tank of water in the garden, all to raise funds for water-related projects across African Promise’s partner schools!
The inspiration for this water-themed challenge came during Freya’s last challenge when she was struck that it would have been almost impossible to complete without drinking water; and yet that is the daily reality for many children around the world.
Freya has already had to battle ice cold water during her challenge so far, on one occasion having to first break through a couple of inches of ice before taking the plunge! One plunge even took place at 9pm due to other commitments and activities, a real sign of Freya’s dedication and determination to complete this challenge!
Freya has so far raised nearly £1,000 from family, friends and her school community – already double her initial target of £500 – which African Promise is already using to increase water capacity and rainwater harvesting potential across our partner schools, to improve water security and resilience during times of drought especially.
