Donating directly from your salary (known as Payroll Giving or Give As You Earn) is a simple and tax-efficient way to support our work.
Because donations are taken from your gross pay before tax is deducted, part of your donation comes from money that would otherwise have gone to HMRC meaning it effectively costs you just 80p for every £1 donated if you are a basic rate taxpayer or just 60p for higher rate taxpayers.
Payroll Giving for employees
The first step to donating to African Promise from your salary is to check with your employer’s HR/payroll department that they are registered for the Payroll Giving scheme and, if so, make arrangements with them (or through their Payroll Giving provider/agency) to set up your payroll giving instruction.
Donations will usually begin being taken from your salary the month after any instruction has been submitted and will show on your payslip as a deduction from your gross salary. A small administration charge may be deducted from your contribution before the funds reach us depending on whether or not your employer is covering these fees. You can cancel your donation at any time by notifying your employer. Please note that arrangements are not automatically transferred when you change employer even if they use the same Payroll Giving agency.
If your employer is not registered for the Payroll Giving scheme then please direct them to the section below.

Payroll Giving for employers
Setting up a Payroll Giving scheme is a simple and effective way to help your employees support charities close to their heart or that of your business as a whole.
You can set up for free and there are few if any on-going costs involved – although you can opt to cover the administration charges deducted from employees donations by your Payroll Giving agency.
To provide your staff with this opportunity you will need to be registered with an approved Payroll Giving agency who will help you manage the scheme and ensure your employees donations reach their chosen charities. There are a number of such agencies but we would recommend CAF Donate, Charitable Giving or Charities Trust.
Any Payroll Giving agency will also be able to advise you on setting up a matching mechanism to encourage and incentivise employees to donate through their salary and on ways you can promote the scheme to your staff at all levels of the business.
