Feeding programme temporarily suspended

children queueing for food

It is with a heavy and conflicted heart that we have reluctantly taken the difficult decision to temporarily suspend our school feeding programme whilst schools remain closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

We do so having consulted with the headteachers of our partner schools and in consideration of the challenges and risks of distributing foodstuffs directly to parents, as well as the need to safeguard the charity’s funds and ensure we can continue to be here to support our partner schools on the other side of this crisis, whenever that may be.

We are somewhat comforted by the knowledge that most families in the community have some harvests to fall back on following the rains over the last few months and therefore should be able to provide for their children whilst they are at home; we hope that those that are most vulnerable are supported via the county and national government’s relief efforts.

We are committed to supporting the feeding programme in the long-term and as soon as we have a confirmed date for resumption of school activities of any kind then we will make the necessary arrangements to ensure that a daily lunch can be provided to the 2,500 children across our partner schools as soon as possible after they return to the classroom.
